Welcome To Our Site

As a mother and baby nurse I was a firm believer in the importance of birth and postpartum support for mothers and their families. It was not until the birth of my first child that I came to terms with how difficult and terrifying it can be to birth and care for your new baby without the caring support of a Doula. I had my ever-devoted and wonderful husband by my side through morning sickness, food cravings, pre-term labor, over 22 hours of excruciating labor, and late-night nursings, but I still struggled through my birth and postpartum experiences. In desperation I turned to a local nursing mother's group to help me with some breastfeeding challenges and the sense of loneliness I felt as a new "stay-at-home" mom. What a relief it was when I went to that first meeting of nursing mothers and counselors to find other women who understood my experiences and the struggles I was facing in my new role. I was embraced by them, and allowed to "vent" my frustration and feelings of isolation in an open forum even though they had never seen me before. I kept going back to those monthly meetings, at first, because I needed to glean from their "breastfeeding wisdom" and then because I enjoyed the sisterhood I found with them. Along the way I decided to "give back" to other mothers and became a nursing mother's counselor and later the group coordinator. I found a sense of belonging in the group of mothers who supported me through my son's developmental stages and in motherhood.

I came across an article on Doula support that same year, and knew instantaneously that I had found my calling in life. How wonderful a discovery it was for me that mothers were looking for Doulas to provide the same support I could have used when my son was born. I knew my training as a mother and baby nurse would aid me in my newfound role as a Doula, so I attended certification workshops that year and learned much about the needs of mothers and their families. I found new and creative ways to support families in need of birth and postpartum care. I now look back at my personal experiences and see how my struggles have given me a greater sense of appreciation and empathy for birthing mothers. There were days I would have loved to have a Doula to keep me company, to encourage me and lift my spirits, and to support me in my breastfeeding journey in those early weeks after the birth of my first child.

Over the years my desire to support birthing and postpartum mothers, led me to found Mother To Mother: Birth and Postpartum Support Services, Inc. We were one of the first Doula services to provide support to families in Southeastern Pa and New Jersey. We have supported over 500 families (and counting) in beautiful births and less-stressful postpartum experiences. I am proud to be apart of what we do, and am thankful that I have been blessed with a wonderful husband and two beautiful children who support me in my efforts. I am grateful for our caring and committed staff of birth and postpartum Doulas who give of themselves each day to comfort, encourage, and care for expectant mother and their families.

I dedicate this website to mothers and Doulas alike, who love and nurture God's greatest gifts to us-our babies.

Blessings To You All,
